    1° HAIR LOSS: WHY?
    - The most common form of hair loss is Androgenetic Alopecia. It is genetic, inherited from either mother or father, and from the male hormones called androgens.
    - The degree of hair loss can vary from one generation to another. It can be more or less extensive, according to the genes the patient received and the way they express themselves.
2° IS HAIR TRANSPLANTATION ALWAYS SUCCESSFUL?
    - Yes. It is. The body will however recognize and accept only its own hair. At the moment we are unable to use foreign hair as it would be rejected. We may be able to do this in the future, but not yet.
3° WILL THE GRAFTED HAIR LAST LONG?
    - Yes. It will last all your life. The hair from the donor area is genetically different. It keeps its permanent identity even when we move it from one area to another. It will grow exactly the same as it did before.
    4° IS IT PAINFUL?
    - The local anaesthetic is quite unpleasant for a couple of minutes. The area is then numb for 3 hours.
    - Painkillers are given as a matter of course after the operation. Most patients do not experience pain, only slight discomfort and sometimes tension at the back of the head. This should last for 24 hours maximum. Very occasionally pain at the back of the head may last anything up to a few weeks.
5° WHAT WILL I LOOK LIKE IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE SURGERY?
    - The stiches in the donor area are not visible as they are covered by the surrounding hair. The small scabs on the grafts are visible until they fall (approx 8 days) if there is not sufficient hair to cover them. You can however wear a hat or cap should you wish.

6° WHEN CAN I GO BACK TO WORK ?
    - You can go back to work the day after the procedure. Some patients prefer to wait 3 days so they can wash their hair.

7° HOW MANY OPERATIONS DO I REQUIRE?
    - That depends on the area to be covered, the density you expect and the quality of your hair at the back (the donor area).
    - Two sessions are usually necessary in any given area to achieve a natural density.
    8° WHAT IS A FOLLICULAR UNIT ?
    - A follicular unit (FU) is a natural grouping of 1 to 4 hairs that must not be separated as their roots are very close and share common structures. 2 and 3 hair FU's make up 70% of the total. 1 and 4 hair FU's make up 30% . 1 hair FU's are placed on, and just behind the hairline to achieve a natural look, 2 and 3 hair FU's are placed behind them, and 4 hair FU's in the central area.
    9° WHAT IS A MICROGRAFT?
    - A micrograft contains 1 or 2 hairs.
Micrografts are part of the follicular units and are used on the temples and hairline.
    They look very natural.

    10° WHEN CAN I HAVE A HAIR TRANSPLANT ?
    - Patients may have hair restoration surgery at any age. However, because hair loss tends to be both gradual and progressive, it is unwise to start surgical treatment in a patient who is very young. It is necessary to design an individualized plan to fulfil your specific needs and it is often better to start when you are not completely bald so that you can use existing hair to help camouflage the procedures.
    11° AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE ?
    - A good candidate must have some hair left at the back (the donor area) and realistic expectations. The initial consultation is very important as it will establish whether the physician has the capacity to meet the patient's goal and will also set out the short and long term consequences of any action taken. Doctor Cahuzac will tell you honestly whether your expectations are realistic, and if so, how they can be achieved (number of sessions, cost). If hair transplantation is not feasible, due to a weak donor area for example, you will be told. The actual transplant is arranged only when both patient and physician are agreed on the goal and the means to achieve it.
